Beloved Aussie kids band The Vegetable Plot first sprouted at the 2014 Sydney Fringe, winning the award for Best Children's show.
Since then Aspara Gus, Ru Barb and Sir Paul McCarrotney have travelled all over Australia, playing their funky-fresh tunes, spreading Love and Peas and serving up a big wriggling heap of truly rotten puns.
Now part of the ABC Kids music family, with listeners in over 150 countries, multiple international awards, 2 ARIA nominations, and more than 5 million streams on Spotify to their name, The Vegetable Plot has grown into that rare thing: a "kids band" that adults enjoy listening to just as much as the kids.
In 2022 the band teamed up with acclaimed puppeteer Kay Yasugi to bring new levels of artistry and silliness to their live show, adding fresh zing to classic veggie bangers like Avocado, Mango and Spanish Onion, and once again taking home the Fringe Kids award for their innovative and “organic” children’s theatre show, “Pajamazon Jungle”
The following year, the veggies enjoyed a successful season inside the Sydney Opera House, introducing young beansprouts to the joys of songwriting with their “Magic Garden” workshops.
In 2025, Kay and the band teamed up again to create a vibrant new theatre show called “Pineapple People”, taking their concept of “organic” live theatre for kids to new heights, with live puppetry and projections adding colour, humour and storytelling to a carefully curated setlist drawn primarily from the band’s multi award-winning Season Three album.
When it comes to spreading Love and Peas through live music, no audience is too big or too small for these brocstar performers. They play libraries, schools, birthday parties, community gardens and council events, and they play major music festivals, theatres and huge outdoor family concerts. One way or another, their joyful ear worms are going to get you!
